  • no outlines, except for where 2 objects of the same color overlap.
  • no shadows - characters are made of large flat areas of color, with minimal suggestions of wrinkles or folds in clothing
  • Flat perspective - objects are flattened out, the space between objects and the background are not the same as real life
  • exaggerated head size - heads and eyes are much larger than normal
  • geometric drawing style - characters are made out of either round shapes, or angular shapes. Shapes are as simple as possible, and smooth as possible except when intersecting with other shapes
  • heavy use of color and texture on backgrounds, suggesting locations instead of depicting every realistic detail.
  • Background colors are more muted, while character colors are more saturated, so the characters pop.
